How to improve website ranking

Tips and tools to improve the ranking of your website in search engines.

1. Inclusion in Search Engines Indexes

So you have a new website, and you are ready to take the following steps to get your website listed in search results. What do you need to do?

There are 2 methods to do this:

The initial is to submit your site to the search engines to create an index of available content. The second approach takes a little longer but results in a more natural indexing process that will undoubtedly affect your rankings in the long run. It is recommended to take both steps if possible.

Alternative one Submitting your website to an online search engine Google offers terrific devices for assessing and boosting your visibility on the internet presence. With Google’s complimentary Webmaster Tools, you can submit your URL for crawling to be included in the search index.

1. To submit your website to Google

Google usually takes several days to crawl a submitted website and include it in the search results index. This does not guarantee placement but allows your website to be included in the search results. The ranking is determined by many factors (some examples here) and not just a few specific settings.

Perform a fetch request (or a fetch and render request) for a URL using Fetch as Google, or select an actual fetch on the spreadsheet that meets the above requirements. Make sure the page is displayed in the fetch as you think it should be; if the page can not be gotten to by the fetch tool or is not entirely is not fully displayed, it may be misclassified or unable to be crawled by Google.

  • Click request indexing beside the fetch in the bring history table. If you don’t see Request Indexing next to a fetch, the fetch has not met the requirements listed above.
  • Select whether to crawl only this individual URL or this URL and its direct links: Crawl only this URL passes only the selected URL to Google for re-crawling. You can send as many as 500 specific URLs in 30 days this way. And all other pages that the URL directly web links to for re-crawling. You can submit as many as ten requests of this type in 30 days.
  • Click Submit to queue your request.

Re-crawling is not immediate or guaranteed. It usually takes several days for a successful request to be approved. Also, note that Google cannot guarantee that your changes will be indexed. Crawl this URL and its direct web links to send the URLs Google relies on a complex algorithm to update indexed material.

2. Natural growth

Natural growth results in a more substantial and more permanent ranking improvement for your website and involves piggybacking on the rankings of other established and credible websites. If other websites or directories contain links to pages on your site, Google may assign higher credibility to your site. By piggybacking on the validity of established websites, you can create a more robust web profile for your site that will show up in search results. For this reason, spam or controversial websites will not appear on the first pages of search results because the credibility of these websites is very low.

An example of piggybacking would be your website mentioned in an article about wedding photography as a popular online resource. In this example, your recent wedding photoshoot could be highlighted and include a link to your website. When Google web crawlers index the article on the established article page, they find your URL and begin crawling and indexing your website more naturally.

This process is usually slower because it requires you to establish your brand well enough to get a feature spotlight for established sites. Once you’ve accomplished this, you may not see an immediate improvement in rankings. However, it creates and encourages more impactful improvements in search results in the long run and will continue to increase the validity of your website over time.

2. improve SEO with content

The content on your website is reviewed and ranked by Google to determine its relevance to a particular search term. It is typically agreed that one of the most critical factors to improve your ranking is to create more content. The more relevant content you have for a search term, the higher Google will rank it accordingly. Also, having more content increases your website’s reach to new customers.

The only condition when creating content is that it must be good content. You should not bloat your website with irrelevant or weak content, as this can generalize your reach and not improve ranking. For example, if you create a web page that only contains an image called “wedding,” Google will see the image but most likely not include the page in the search results for the search term “wedding” due to the lack of additional content that could promote the validity of the page. On the other, if you have a web page that contains multiple images that are all indexed as wedding-related, as well as additional textual content, Google is more likely to be encouraged to display the page in search results, as that page would be characterized as “good” content for the search term “wedding” if indexed by Google.

Since content plays a significant role in increasing the reach of your website to potential customers, blogs are one of the best options when it comes to content creation. Fresh content provides relevant search results to users, so good blogging habits are recommended.

As mentioned earlier, you want your content to be recognized as “good” content. If you create fake pages that are indexed by search engines but are not visible to users, or if you hide text content or other elements such as images on a page to pretend a page is indexed, this is considered an attempt to “cheat the system.” Google works hard to provide users with only the most relevant results and is very successful at detecting these “black hat SEO” practices, and can either lower your rankings significantly or even ban your site from the search index altogether. It is best to practice healthy SEO options that do not attempt to trick search engines.

3. Tracking and measuring SEO success.

After utilizing any of the above methods, you should track the success of your SEO practices. This will provide you with beneficial insight into the impact of the steps you’ve taken and how to leverage that success for other marketing purposes.

4. Additional Resources

SEO can be a complicated and in-depth mountain to climb, specific to each business. Like many online experts, we advise against using SEO services that boast about “improving your ranking overnight” or make other very bold claims. Most of these services use tools not allowed by search engine guidelines to fake immediate results and can cause your website’s SEO to suffer in the long run or even be banned from search results altogether.

These free resources, you’ll find guides that will show you how to optimize your website using keyword research, competitor analysis, implementation, and other tips.
